Last Updated: December 17, 2021
On December 17, the BC government announced new restrictions going into effect on December 20, 2021 until January 31, 2022. Under these new measures, we are able to present our New Year’s Eve Variety Show with a reduced capacity and restrictions enforced. As this performance is presented at a venue with a capacity of 1,000+, the Queen Elizabeth Theatre, we have limited our capacity to 50% to follow the new guidelines. We had already announce a proactive decrease in capacity, from 100% to 75%, in November. If future restrictions require us to cancel the performance entirely, we will refund all ticket purchases. The New Year’s Eve Variety Show is a seated performance for all ages.
It is therefore allowed under the new measures, which state “all New Year’s Eve organized gatherings and events will be restricted to being seated-only events, with no mingling or dancing allowed”. Read all measures on the BC Government website.
To ensure the safety of our performers and audiences, we please ask that audience members follow the restrictions and safety protocols outlined below. Please help keep our audience, staff and volunteers safe by thoroughly understanding these protocols prior to attending the show.
Vaccination Verification
As mandated by BC provincial health authorities, proof of vaccination is required for entry into all theatres in British Columbia, including ours, as of October 24th 2021. Our guests 18 and over will need to present their BC Vaccine Card to be scanned, matched with their government-issued ID. Youth 12-17 must show proof of vaccination, but not ID. Children under the age of 12 are exempt from the proof of vaccination requirement. Regulations for out-of-province and international guests differ; please check current provincial requirements before arrival. All Circus3 and Vancouver Civic Theatres artists, staff and volunteers will be fully vaccinated.
Mask Policy
Per provincial health regulations, all attendees aged 5+ are required to wear a face covering over their nose and mouth when entering and leaving, and while seated (except when actively consuming food or a beverage). No food or beverages are allowed in our mezzanine and balcony sections, so masks will be worn at all times in these sections. Please don’t make our ushers interrupt the performance to ask you to wear a mask properly.
Contactless
Our ticketing is now contactless with reserved/assigned seating. Out of respect for other guests, we require all guests to sit in their assigned seat. Tickets can be printed at home or presented on your phone. If you experience any difficulties, please visit a box office window outside before entry. Contactless payment (credit and debit) for in-person ticket purchases is strongly encouraged; cash is accepted with exact change only. The concession accepts card payments only.
No Intermission
For the safety of our guests, all our performances until September 2022 will be presented without an intermission. We realize intermissions are a fun opportunity for our guests to grab a drink and chat about what they have experienced on stage, however we feel that congregating in our theatre aisles and lobbies is not the safest choice at present. Your safety is our priority.
Distancing When You Leave
After the final bow and standing ovation (hopefully), we ask our guests to remain seated until directed otherwise. Our ushers will invite you to exit row by row to allow for social distancing. We thank you for your patience with this safety measure.
Reduced 50% Capacity
All performances presented by Circus3 at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre, including our New Year’s Eve Variety Show, will operate at a reduced 50% capacity, as required. If you see a performance showing as sold out with empty seats, this is why.
Our theatres are huge, the largest in Canada. Our best seating, closest to the stage, within what we call the orchestra level, will be assigned as normal. You may be seated next to other guests, and can briefly remove your mask when consuming food and beverages. However, we realize that some of our guests have elevated health and safety concerns, and proudly offer social distancing within our physically separate mezzanine section for those that wish social distancing was still a mandated thing province-wide. Additionally, food and beverages are not allowed in this section, and you must strictly wear your mask throughout the entire performance. These tickets are not available via online purchase—you must call our box office at 604-817-1315—and are extremely limited.
Ticket Exchange Policy
We’ve updated our ticket refund and exchange policy due to the ongoing pandemic. Previously, as with most event ticket sellers, all ticket purchases were non-refundable. At our discretion, we will now consider requests for ticket exchanges to future performances presented by Circus3 if you can’t attend for reasons directly related to Covid-19, such as being required to self-isolate. We want to keep everyone safe. When you purchase a ticket to any show, you are holding a seat that becomes unavailable to others. Therefore, generally, these tickets are non-refundable. However, if a performance is cancelled, by us, all tickets will be refunded or, at your discretion, we may offer to transfer your ticket if the event is rescheduled. For more information about the ticket sales act refer to Consumer Protection BC.
